NOTE FROM WYE PRINCIPAL
I am so
delighted that you are part of our amazing learning community. Yes, these are bizarre
circumstances in which we find ourselves beginning this school year, but we are
so excited to see our Lil’ Bulldogs! I
welcome and value your positive energy and dedication to excellence in
education, and I look forward to working with you this year!
My name is
Kerri Edwards and I am honored to be your child’s Principal for the 2020-2021 school
year. I am going into my 20th
year in education. I was a Special
education teacher and Special Education Process Coordinator before going into
Administration here in the district. I was an Administrative Intern for 2 years,
3 years as an Assistant principal, one of those years here at William Yates. This will be my 4th year at
WYE! On a personal note, I have been
married to my wonderful husband for 19 years and we have 2 awesome kids. Ellyse is 16 and heading into her Junior year
at Blue Springs South High School and Evan who turned 10 this summer is going
to be a Fifth grader at Chapel Lakes Elementary. We had a unique summer with lots of campfires
and some occasional Softball games this summer.
We are generally all over the country playing softball and soccer, this
summer we enjoyed the slowness of our calendars!
We are indeed
a joyous and caring community with the common goal of nurturing responsible,
caring students and promoting high-level learning. I feel very fortunate to have the opportunity
to work alongside such a wonderful group of caring individuals. New to Bulldog Nation this school year:

Notes:
· Arrival:
WYE will open our doors at 8:55,
students will go straight to their classrooms.
Please review your Return to Learn guide found at the top of the page. We are anticipating more car riders this
school year and we want to make sure we are entering the building safely and at
a distance. Please stay in your vehicle
when you drop of your students. WYE
Kindergarten through 2nd grade students will enter the building
through our main entrance doors. 3rd,
4th, and 5th graders will enter the building through the
“old” Prime Time doors. Buses this
school year will enter and exit through our new driveway to the NEW gym off of South
Crackerneck Road.
· Arrival:
Parents will not be allowed to enter the
school building on the first day this year. Please plan on sending your child
to school how your normally would. We cannot have all the typical pictures out
front of WYE or with your teachers on the first day. We promise to take very
good care of all Lil’ Bulldogs!
· Please
be patient with our parent drop off and pick up. We will have many more
students being driven to school this year. If you are driving your child to and
from school, please use this car sign attached her to help us identify the
students you are picking up, this should help create a smoother process. We will also be sending home the attached
with your student on the first day, just place that onto your rearview mirror to
use at pick up from car lane.
· If
you are bringing a child to school late or picking them up early, please ring
the doorbell at the front entrance and we will speak to you from there.
Unfortunately, we are not allowing visitors in the building.
· We
enjoy seeing families come to have lunch with your children; however, this will
not be an option this year. No visitors will be allowed in the cafeteria to
allow for social distancing of students eating lunch.
· We
will not be allowing food birthday treats this year. Thank you for understanding.
· Please
be mindful of the 15-minute time period before school is dismissed, we
frequently have parents picking their children up early at this time. Mrs.
Porterfield and the office will be busy making sure students are getting to the
correct dismissal spot so please refrain from pickups at this time.
·
For
questions regarding COVID procedures please refer to the BSSD Return to Learn

for the opportunity to be a part of your child's life. My philosophy is open communication. Please contact me whenever you have a
question or concern. I will do the same
for you. Everyone’s input is important as we work together to create a school
where all students can be successful. As a parent or guardian, your interest and
involvement with your child’s education will promote a positive attitude toward
learning and academic achievement.
Together, I
know we will make this school year one of growth and achievement for all
