Principal’s Message

We are thrilled to have you join our amazing learning community. We welcome and value your positive energy and dedication to educational excellence.  Our community is one of joy and care, united by the shared goal of fostering responsible, compassionate students and encouraging high-level learning. 

This past school year, WYE was honored with its second Missouri Gold Star School award and received the National Blue-Ribbon Award for the second time.

The heart of our mission is a commitment to the whole child. Academic excellence is a priority, but we also understand the critical role social and emotional well-being plays in a student’s success. When students feel secure, respected, and connected to their school community, they are better equipped to learn, grow, and thrive in all areas of life.

My name is Kerri Edwards, and I am honored to be your child’s Principal for the 2025-2026 school year. I am going into my 25th year in education. I was a Special education teacher and Special Education Process Coordinator before going into Administration here in the district. I was an Administrative Intern for 2 years, 3 years as an Assistant principal, one of those years here at William Yates. This will be my 9th year at WYE! On a personal note, I have been married to my wonderful husband for 24 years and we have 2 awesome kids. Ellyse is 21 and heading into her Senior year at the University of Missouri, MIZ and Evan who turns 15 this summer is going to be Sophomore at Blue Springs South High School.   On any given night you will find us on a soccer field somewhere in the metro.   

We cannot wait to meet your child and watch him/her grow and learn. Thank you for the opportunity to be a part of your child's life. Our philosophy is open communication. Please contact me whenever you have a question or concern. I will do the same for you. Everyone’s input is important as we work together to create a school where all students can be successful. As a parent or guardian, your interest and involvement with your child’s education will promote a positive attitude toward learning and academic achievement. We have several tools to keep you updated throughout the year including weekly Bulldog note emails, teacher newsletters and our school website along with X.  

Thank you to everyone for helping prepare for the new school year, your dedication to making WYE a place of continued success and celebration is truly inspiring. With a new school year on the horizon, our team is enthusiastic and prepared to inspire learning, nurture connections, and cultivate a welcoming environment where every child feels seen and supported. I’m truly excited to see our students and families return. It’s both a joy and a responsibility I deeply value to serve as your principal, and I’m thankful for the trust and collaboration we share in guiding your child’s growth.
